CHOON OF THE DAY: "SOMEWHERE ELSE " - Sink Ya Teeth

Photo by Andi Sapey + Susie Lloyd

Sink Ya Teeth, our favourite disco punk revivalists are back with an infectious electro stomper "Somewhere Else" throbbing with beats, synths and melody hooks which instantly get under your skin. I have been a devoted admirer of this talented Norwich duo ever since I heard their hypnotic debut single "If You See Me" back in 2017. The new single announces the release of their highly anticipated 2nd LP "Two" which drops next week! The video for "Somewhere Else" was directed by Joseph Hayes and the track is trending super high for my upcoming monthly Crème de la Shrem ranking. On repeat!

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "SUBSTITUTES" - Sink Ya Teeth

I have been rooting for this UK duo from the very beginning. Sink Ya Teeth have appeared on numerous Crème de la Crème charts of mine, stood on the podium of my Hottest Newcomers of 2017 list last December and prepared this fun Perfect Party Playlist exclusively for my blog back in January. Now Maria Uzor and Gemma Cullingford are teasing us even more before the release of their self-titled debut album with an instantly captivating, gritty electro punk gem "Substitutes". Those post-punk vibes (that somehow suddenly sound very current again!), the energy and the haunting vocals serpentined around another entrancing melody, create a unique atmosphere. I am very much looking forward to discovering Sink Ya Teeth's debut album in its entirety. Aside from "Substitutes" the record will feature the pair's previous singles "Pushin'" and the anthemic "If You See Me".

CHOON OF THE DAY: "PUSHIN'" - Sink Ya Teeth

I was honoured to have the Norwich synth-pop duo Sink Ya Teeth cherry-pick this Perfect Party Playlist exclusively for my blog 2 weeks ago and now Maria Uzor and Gemma Cullingford are releasing their much anticipated brand new single "Pushin'". The pulsating track is an energy-fuelled fusion of synth-disco, post-punk and electro-pop. Meaty bass lines, throbbing beats, untamed vocals, retro-sounding synthesisers - a signature sonic cocktail à la Sink Ya Teeth. Raw and contagious.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "IF YOU SEE ME" - Sink Ya Teeth

Mix up a little bit of new wave with a generous dose of disco-punk, add a pinch of electroclash and we arrive at Sink Ya Teeth's addictive debut single "If You See Me". James Murphy-meets-Nancy Whang-meets-Bush Tetras-meets-Peaches! The minimal keyboards, the hypnotising hooks and occasional beats make this an unparalleled treat for all the genre-bending alternative musos in the house. It's queer, it's delectably seductive and totally unique. I've had this Norwich duo's first single on repeat for a couple of days and I must warn you the more you listen to it the more addictive it becomes.

The super fun low-budget video was directed by Joanna Millington and "If You See Me" is out now via 1965 Records.

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "Paixão" + "Volta P'ra Mim" - Heróis Do Mar

I will probably never get tired of discovering 1980's music. Especially the bands I would have never heard of if not for my muso friends from different parts of the world recommending their local vintage treasures to me. It was the case with this cult Portuguese band Heróis Do Mar whom I found so much about this week. Their early 80's significant mix of pop and nu romantic vibes with the subtle reminiscences of disco and punk is right up my street.

SHREM'S BIGGIES BUT GOODIES BASKET: "BACK 2 THE WILD" - Basement Jaxx

Oh how much have we missed Basement Jaxx!!! European dance scene just sounds so much poorer when the London duo is on their break. The wait is over however and we've just been attacked by their signature sonic hybrid of exotic world grooves, monstrously delicious house beats, hyper energy, chaotic production, that obligatory pinch of musical anarchy and good old-fashioned fun. "Back 2 The Wild" sees Basement Jaxx boys returning in top form. Hope we get even more spoiled now with some new album and hopefully new tour announcements as well. The video is an absolute feats for all the kitsch connoisseurs like myself.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "EARTHQUAKE" - SSION

I have always had a penchant for Cody Critcheloe and his ultra-super-hyper-flamboyant take on pop music by the fabulous SSION. Their latest album "Bent" which dropped last year via their website, will now deservedly receive a proper global release on 18th September. I have already claimed it one of the best records of 2011 here! Following "My Love Grows In The Dark" we're now treated to a second video announcing the arrival of "Bent". Enjoy!

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "MARATHON RUNNER (Alkaline Edit)" - Aural Exciters

What a fabulous re-edit of this undergound mutant disco anthem from 1979! I'm all over "20 Mutant Disco Uptown Edits" compilation which has just dropped via ZE Records. It's modern vintage baby!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "Robocops and Flipflops" - Spektrum + Remixes

Not sure how I discovered Spektrum's latest video only now! You can always count on Miss Lola Olafisoye & co to deliver a picant mosaic of electro, punk and disco. I'd like to treat this as a good sign for all those who are eager to see Spektrum's brand new album being released in 2012. I dig "Robocops & Flipflops" a lot! Check out Thomas Gandey's dancefloor ready mix of the tune below.

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "Le Goudron" - YACHT

YACHT's brand new single based on 1969 Brigitte Fontaine's track sounds like the best single DFA was involved in releasing in quite some time. Neon dancefloor, irresistible beat and a sizzling hot mish-mash of disco, electro and punk. My new number one tune! Download your free copy from the soundcloud clip below. P.S. Gutted I missed them playing Workman's Club here in Dublin last night...

CHOON OF THE DAY: "HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE" - The Rapture + Sidechain's 90's Rework

The Rapture's eponymous "How Deep Is Your Love" now finally has a video! It is easily one of the most accomplished disco punk singles in the New Yorkers' catalogue now spanning over a decade of tunes. Sidechain's 1990's rework below is absolutely ESSENTIAL!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "HORSES" - Montevideo + Mickey Rework

Hungry for some fresh disco punk DFA style? Montevideo's "Horses" should soothe all those where-is-my-new-LCD-Soundsystem-tune cravings just fine. This electrifying single by the faux-Uruguayans from Brussels is out now via Smile Recordings. Top quality production!

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "I WANTED TO TELL HER" - Holy Ghost! feat. Juan Maclean & Nancy Whang

Time for another dream collaboration coming from the DFA nu-disco tent. This ultra-funky sonic threesome will sizzle up your chilly winter evenings. Nancy Whang has some set up underground dance anthems on her account at this stage, do you remember "Happy House" or "Take 'Em Up".

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "LUVBAZAAR" + "BLONDE WITH U (with Casey Spooner)" - SSION

Two absolute gems from SSION's brand new album "Bent". This is the best alternative to all the bland pop music out there. Euphoric, ecstatic, flamboyant and pure fun sounds! Cody Critcheloe & co offer an inimitable mish-mash of disco, punk, electro and funk with a pinch of almost any other music genre out there. One of a kind act!

P.S. I just wanna be blonde with u!

P.S.2 How clever is the sample taken from Deee Lite's cult "Groove is in the heart" used in the second track?

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "Psy-chic" - SSION

The ultra-flamboyant disco punk collective SSION are offering their brand new album completely for FREE on their website. "Bent" is a phenomenal mish-mash of funk, dirty disco, punk and electro and as I read on one of the blogs accurately pointed Cody Critcheloe and co "sit on thrones in the electro-pop-acid-queer-funk-punk-music-art-performance scene". I listed "Clown" as one of 10 best tracks of the last decade and this album is just a natural follow-up in its utter brilliance! Bravo!!! You know "Listen to the Grrrls" already, here comes another gem "Psy-chic":

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING "LISTEN TO THE GRRRLS" by SSION

Cody Critcheloe and co aka SSION - the team responsible for "Clown" - one of 10 best songs of the past decade, are back with this flamboyant single they describe as Kylie Moroder Pink Huggy Bear Floyd aka a new song from the new record "BENT"... Looking forward to it as SSION is one of the most unpredictable and artistically imaginative acts out there!
