SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "BLAME" + "CORCOVADO" - Everything But The Girl

Perhaps slightly controversially but completely subjectively speaking these two recordings are my absolute favourites in the entire catalogue of Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn. "Blame", co-produced by drum'n'bass hero J-Majik, was Everything But The Girl's 3rd single from their last studio album "Temperamental" while their exuberant cover of Antônio Carlos Jobim's "Corcovado", originally released on "RED HOT + RIO" compilation back in 2000, remains the duo's final single to date. Two unquestionably spectacular tracks but then again I've always had a very soft spot for EBTG going for the drum'n'bass and jungle sounds, no one ever made them so sublime and refined.

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "BANZO" - Leny Andrade + "DEIXA A NEGA GINGAR" - Stan Guetz Quartet feat. Flora Purim

Leny Andrade, Flora Purim, Elza Soares - three Brazilian divas of the 1960's. Blissful, sophisticated and timeless sounds...

And here's Elza Soares' much more upbeat version of this classic:

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "GIRL FROM IPANEMA" - Amy Winehouse /// "GAROTA DE IPANEMA" - Astrud Gilberto

One of the most beloved classics among the lavishly rich lexicon of Brazilian songs interpreted by many many artists all through the years. I picked this charming and wonderful version by back then only 17 years old Amy Winehouse from before her debut "Frank" era. And then the lady herself the exquisite and multi-talented Astrud Gilberto.

Ok I couldn't resist, let's make it a triple trouble and play Maestro Antonio Carlos Jobim too:

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "Amor Perfeito" - Elza Soares + "Que Pena (Ela já não gosta mais de mim)" - Gal Costa & Caetano Veloso

I have two sublime pieces from the never-ending resources of quality Brazilian music for you today. No other country had such an instantly recognisable, distinctive and unique sound back in the 60's and 70's. These two ladies sound gorgeous back to back. Beijinhos e abraçinhos para todos! ♡♡♡♡♡
