SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "GOD EMOJI" - Silicon /// "ANNIE" - Neon Indian
Weird World Records, London based indie label which spoiled our ears already with Washed Out and Jaakko Eino Kalevi, are eager to introduce you to Silicon - the new project from Auckland, New Zealand by a Hawaii multi-instrumentalist Kody Nielson. Judging by the first, extremely impressive single "God Emoji" we should be expecting a vibrant sonic cocktail of chillwave, funk and synth-pop. The alluring debut single from Silicon comes with one of this year's most memorable music videos, directed by Sam Peacocke, the artist's clever Instagram account and this peculiar press blurb:
"Lurking amidst Auckland’s tranquil waters, bold mountains and dormant volcanoes; insomniac Kody Nielson composes shiny and gorgeous pop-aspersions that loiter in the silence. Eyes never blinking, information never ceasing, it is seduction. Don’t stop."
"Annie" is a come-back single from Neon Indian, one of the pioneers of chill-wave, lo-fi and indietronica, arriving almost 4 years after Alan Palomo's last synth-pop gem "Polish Girl". Chosen as one of Pitchork's "Best New Tracks" last week, the song announces a slight change in musical direction for Neon Indian balancing between Balearic vibes, vintage electro pop, italo disco and tropical synths. A charmingly oldskool and oddly appealing mixture of Hot Chip, Penguin Prison and Culture Club. A brand new summer party anthem about to happen.

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS: "ALENA" - Yumi Zouma
Do you remember the scrumptiously relaxing sound of Yumi Zouma's debut EP which stole our hearts with its lush production at the beginning of the year? Now the low-key New Zealanders drop another sublime dream pop single "Alena" which sounds both cosy and euphoric. Those sweet harmonies are there again. The almost nostalgic end-of-summer feel of the song is mixed up with a subtle invitation to dance. Another winner for the impressively eclectic mine of international talents that is Cascine.

SHREM'S NEWBIES BUT TO-BE'S: "SPEAK" - NAVVI
Somewhere between the Washed Out's mellowness and Austra's eerie vocals lies an intriguing mélange of witch house, suspensful dub and experimental POP that's called NAVVI. The mysterious duo from Seattle featured on "Kitsuné AMERICA 3" compilation last month and has been haunting me with this track "Speak" ever since. Going through NAVVI's Soundcloud I have just discovered more of those similarly hypnotising, moody electro pop tunes. A pleasurable discovery indeed.

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS: "YUMI ZOUMA EP" - Yumi Zouma + Wild Nothing Remix
American underground label Cascine has just made a music planet a better place with the release of Yumi Zouma's beguiling self-titled debut EP. I usually tend to cherry pick the stand-out tracks from newly released EP's but with such a superb 4-tracker from this slightly mysterious New Zealand trio it has proven to be a mission impossible. It's the sweetest collection of dreamy, alluring POP for those who loathe current mainstream POP with passion. Think Washed Out, think Germans, think Rainbow Chan, think Nite Jewel, think Toro Y Moi. All these mighty influences with Yumi Zouma's very own delicately folksy twist, blissful harmonies and sumptuous melodies. 4 out of 4. What an impressively solid debut!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "IT'S ONLY LOVE" /// "JEREMIAH (THE DENIER)" - Ejecta
The ever so slightly enigmatic duo Ejecta are Leanne Macomber and Joel Ford. They make the kind of pop music which is a perfect bridge between synth-laden indie stuff, nu and italo disco. Their solid debut album "Dominae" was released in November 2013 and somehow escaped my attention. While catching up on it now I have come to the realisation it is packed with the most charming melodies and wonderfully kitschy arrangements. A new favourite big time. Here are 2 stand-out tracks from Ejecta's record which is out now via Driftless Recordings in US and Happy Death in UK.

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING: "NATURE TRIPS" + "EVERYTHING WE TOUCH TURNS INTO GOLD" - Eyedress
Surprises like Eyedress are such a bliss for people like myself who are addicted to both electronica and music coming from exotic parts of the world. Idris Vicuña hidden behind a pseudonym of Eyedress comes from Manila and both of the tracks come from this mysterious artist's debut EP "Supernatural" released on December 2 by Abeano. Who would have thought I'd get to discover some electro and glo-fi from the Philippines? File somewhere between Grimes, Washed Out and oOoOO.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "ANOTHER" - Seekae
Seekae are from Sydney and make these kind of chilled alternative soundscapes. "Another" is balancing between two separate musical planets with its instantly attention-grabbing powerful super-melody of a modern pop classic and its cold, ascetic, atmospheric production associated with the electronic world. File somewhere between The Irrepressibles, HURTS, Sohn and Cut Copy.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "WATER ME" - FKA Twigs
I must admit I have never heard of Twigs, or shall I say the artist formerly known as Twigs, until this week. All of a sudden a few of my muso friends whose tastes in music I always trust, started obsessively sharing this video. Strange I remained so completely oblivious to this extraordinary singer for that long. Anyhow here's "Water Me" one of the most unique, mind-blowing recordings I heard all year. Beautifully bizarre, hypnotically gripping, both visually and sonically astounding. Produced by Arca, the transcendent "Water Me" announces Twigs' EP2 out 9th September via Young Turks. I am in awe...

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING: "WITHOUT YOUR LOVE" - oOoOO
oOoOO's debut album "Without Your Love" has just dropped via N I H J G T // F E E L I N G S. The outstanding title track is an instant winner on the album, oOoOO sounding less dark and more melodic who would have thought? It's all happening though with Chris Dexter's signature enigmatic production of course.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "YOU & ME (Toro Y Moi Remix)" - Disclosure feat. Eliza Doolittle /// "ROSE QUARTZ (FaltyDL Remix)" - Toro Y Moi
Two astonishing remixes linked to each other by the multi-skilled Chaz Bundick, the wonder child of chillwave, in one of his countless artistic alter-egos as Toro Y Moi. Here's his graceful rendition of Disclosure's Top 20 hit "You & Me" with Eliza Doolittle's chopped vocals to a dreamy effect. The second one is Toro Y Moi's 4th single from "Anything In Return" - "Rose Quartz" stunningly reworked by New York based UK Garage producer FaltyDL. An elegant addition to the long list of musicians who borrowed his undeniable mixing skills which already includes Vladislav Delay, Photek, Holy Ghost!, Bonobo and Dirty Projectors among others.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "EVERYTHING IS EMBARRASSING (Twin Shadow Remix) - Sky Ferreira /// "SLEEP IN THE PARK (Twin Shadow Remodel)" - Solange
Last year I blogged about these two ladies together as well. Solange's "Losing You" and Sky Ferreira's "Everything is Embarrassing", two exquisite moments in pop music last year, both written and produced by the ultra-talented Blood Orange, came out around the same time and swept me off my feet immediately. This time around both ladies were the inspiration for two supreme remix treatments courtesy of a chillwave hero and a synth-pop enfant terrible Twin Shadow. This musical threesome is rather saucy.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "TEARS FROM HEAVEN" - Desire
Desire, one of the most cherished bands from the ultra-cool Italians Do It Better, has just released this gorgeous vintage video for "Tears from Heaven". In a similar fashion to their widely beloved "Under Your Spell" from the soundtrack to Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive", this new song also offers the unmistakenable production by the enormously talented Johnny Jewel (Glass Candy and The Chromatics), the immediately enchanting melody and the mesmerising mish-mash of analog synths and chill-wave atmosphere. Oh and that little bridge en français in the middle oooh la la... Judging by the excellence of both "Tears From Heaven" and the exquisite "Looking For Love" by The Chromatics we shall soon be treated to one of the best compilations in months if not years. Both tracks will be included on the upcoming "After Dark 2" alongside new tunes by Glass Candy, Farah, Mirage and Appaloosa.

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "EARLY MORNING" - Isaac Delusion
I have found this irresistible summer treasure on the latest compilation in the "French Attack!" series. The whole EP is coming up soon via The Cracki Records. It's such a glorious little sonic excursion. For fans of Washed-Out, Metronomy or Au Revoir Simone.
Oh and there's a lovely live version of this enchanting tune as well:

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE PRESENTS: "NoWayBack" + "Springs" - oOoOO feat. Butterclock
The San Francisco based chillwave pioneers oOoOO have just released their second EP "Our Loving Is Hurting Us" filled with enigmatic soundscapes and eerily alluring melodies. Both tracks featuring the mysterious Butterclock caught my attention instantly out of all the 5 tracks. Dark, freaky and hypnotising...
