SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "PA PA PA" - Bert On Beats feat. Deize Tigrona + "SAMUEL" - Milangeles
What a vibrant fusion of sounds, beats and collaborative efforts from all sorts of colourful corners of the world! "Pa Pa Pa" is an upcoming explosion of a single by Estonian BERT ON BEATS which features the brazen and foul-mouthed Funk carioca queen Deize Tigrona. You may remember this Rio de Janeiro based M.I.A. protégée from last year's hyper-energetic single "Prostituto" which you can listen to HERE. One of the remixes for "Pa Pa Pa" (out 17th Dec via Man Recordings) was committed by Milangeles, a self-defined Trash Dance Sound System from Pavia, Italy. Their very own "Samuel" is a fantastic dancefloor filler too for all the Latin kitsch and dancehall lovers out there. A dancehall Babel, a tropical-caribbean session and a feast of global beats!

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "MERMAID OF SALINAS" - Basement Jaxx + "What A Difference Your Love Makes (Huxley Remix)"
It seems I can't stop blogging about Basement Jaxx these days but I seriously haven't been that excited about their new material in almost a decade! While "What A Difference Your Love Makes" might possibly be one of the songs of the year (and definitely the best video in 2013 so far!) they're also offering a treasure of a b-side "Mermaid Of Salinas" - a slice of multi-coloured explosion of irresistible samba beats. The London duo could always afford to drop such quality tunes as bonus tracks only, an overload of talent and creativity that they are. This is the "Bingo Bango" of 2013. Superb! The single is out 29th September.

SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "BLAME" + "CORCOVADO" - Everything But The Girl
Perhaps slightly controversially but completely subjectively speaking these two recordings are my absolute favourites in the entire catalogue of Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn. "Blame", co-produced by drum'n'bass hero J-Majik, was Everything But The Girl's 3rd single from their last studio album "Temperamental" while their exuberant cover of Antônio Carlos Jobim's "Corcovado", originally released on "RED HOT + RIO" compilation back in 2000, remains the duo's final single to date. Two unquestionably spectacular tracks but then again I've always had a very soft spot for EBTG going for the drum'n'bass and jungle sounds, no one ever made them so sublime and refined.

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "PROSTITUTO" - Deize Tigrona feat. Jaloo + Remixes
Exactly how much energy can you fit into just over 2 minutes? Deize Tigrona's "Prostituto" is a floor-shaking explosion of saucy vocals & ear-piercing beats. This vigorous piece of Funk carioca is an instant dancefloor hit, heard it last night for the first time and immediately thought it was going to be a party essential from now on. Pure fun! And here's a bonus "music curiosity of the day" for you. Deize Tigrona's other song "Injeção" was used as the basis for M.I.A.'s "Bucky Done Gone":

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "BANZO" - Leny Andrade + "DEIXA A NEGA GINGAR" - Stan Guetz Quartet feat. Flora Purim

Leny Andrade, Flora Purim, Elza Soares - three Brazilian divas of the 1960's. Blissful, sophisticated and timeless sounds...
And here's Elza Soares' much more upbeat version of this classic:

SHREM'S WORLDLY DELIGHTS: "TICO TICO" + "PAPAYA" - Urszula Dudziak

One of the most famous Brazilian songs "Tico Tico" was recorded countless amount of times in countless different arrangements by countless artists all over the globe. Here's one of my absolute favourite versions of this evergreen classic, dipped in funk and disco, here's "Tico Tico" by Poland's prime jazz diva Urszula Dudziak and her human voice redefining vocals. The second track is her biggest single ever "Papaya" released back in 1975 in UK, Spain, Canada, Belgium and US.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "GIRL FROM IPANEMA" - Amy Winehouse /// "GAROTA DE IPANEMA" - Astrud Gilberto

One of the most beloved classics among the lavishly rich lexicon of Brazilian songs interpreted by many many artists all through the years. I picked this charming and wonderful version by back then only 17 years old Amy Winehouse from before her debut "Frank" era. And then the lady herself the exquisite and multi-talented Astrud Gilberto.
Ok I couldn't resist, let's make it a triple trouble and play Maestro Antonio Carlos Jobim too:

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "SHAKE DE AMOR" - Banda UÓ /// "FUNK DO IPHONE" - João Brasil feat. Marina Gasolina

Two hilariously kitschy pieces of Brazilian electro nodding to M.I.A. and Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair". Banda UÓ - an insane combination of Army of Lovers, SSION and Sinitta + banana l.o.v.ing João Brasil and his brand new single with Bonde do Role's Marina Gasolina. Crazy overdose? Never!

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "HITS ME LIKE A ROCK" - CSS + Dillon Francis Remix

I'm beginning to doubt CSS will ever get anywhere near the utter-brilliance of "Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above"... It was such a fresh, almost instantly anthemic single. Since then things were only going less and less creative in my humble opinion... Their latest offering however, as much as the song doesn't tickle me pink, has just received a rather enjoyable video. Lovefoxxx's just always so effortlessly cool though, isn't she?

SHREM'S GUILTIEST OF PLEASURES... VOL. 22: "L.O.V.E. Banana" - João Brasil feat. Lovefoxxx + Daniel Haaksman Remix

Ridiculous I know. Some of this year's cringiest lyrics too and still I'm quite addicted to this little piece of Brazilian kitsch. Well it's the best thing Lovefoxxx was involved in since CSS's debut album... Pity it's not in Portuguese though...

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "BEIJOS SEUS LABIOS" - Baron Retif & Concepcion Perez feat. Tita Lima

I have fallen in love with this Brazilian track a few hours ago... It was love at first listen... Dreamy soundscapes, intricate yet subtle production, all sung in one of this planet's most melodic languages... What a beauty! Such refined music deserves a unique 10" vinyl release indeed...
