SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "LUDZIE PSY" /// "SORRY POLSKO" - Maria Peszek

I was gonna announce it as the Polish album of the year but the more I listen to it the more I think it might actually be the album of the decade in Poland. Lyrically - groundbreaking. Musically - vibrantly eclectic. Vocally - simply stupendous! Maria Peszek is effortlessly the most important artist on the cultural scene of my homeland. 12 songs of constant goosebumps! Here are two of the highlights. Have a look at the video for "Ludzie Psy" and get involved in the fantastic interactive project of creating an alternative version of the video HERE!

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "Lovers in the Parking Lot" - Solange

I firmly stand by my opinion that Solange's single "Losing You" is among the best songs of the year. In addition to this pure jewel of a pop tune we receive a whole action packed EP with more of those delightful sounds by Beyoncé's younger sister. "True" is just oozing coolness from its every minute but this one single track is simply second to none. A melody from heavens above as I like to call it sometimes ;-) A very elegant production and Solange's sweet like candy vocals. Priceless!

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING: "SODA" + "SWEET TEA" - Boody & Le1f

The brazen child of all sounds urban and dancehall with an experimental twist, Le1f has just teamed up with Boody and together they came up with dazzlingly twisted "Liquid EP". I adore the styling, the inventive production mixing minimal beats with distorted sound effects and the fact I can't really compare "Soda" to anything I heard or watched this year.

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "STRAIGHT & ARROW" - FaltyDL + Four Tet & Gold Panda Remixes

One of Ninja Tune's brightest talents, the wizard of electronica, soulful samples and garage, FaltyDL left me flabbergasted yet again with his astonishing new single. As if it wasn't enough "Straight & Arrow", taken from the album "Hardcourage", to be released in January 2013, is accompanied by one of this year's most memorable videos and the remixes were provided by a rather mighty team of Four Tet and Gold Panda. Straight to the top on my personal electronic chart this week. What a marvel of a release.

SHREM'S ACADEMY OF ALL TIME BEST SINGLES: "HUMAN" - Human League

RELEASE DATE: 1986
CHART PEAK: CAN #1, US #1, NZL #4

CHOON OF THE DAY: "CHERRY" - Chromatics

Italians Do It Better is unstoppable this autumn. In anticipation for the label's "After Dark 2" compilation we receive yet another fabulous teaser, this time coming from the Chromatics. The instantly appealing "Cherry" comes as a generous free download with a vintage video by the one and only Alberto Rossini. What a beautiful melody! With the band's previous effort the hypnotising "Looking For Love" and Desire's rapturous "Tears From Heaven" I think we can easily predict the compilation reaching its cult status similarly to its predecessor in no time from the release date. Quite simply the coolest record label out there...

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "FASCINATION (MICHAEL FAKESCH REMIX) /// "GURU (SEPTIMUS REMIX) - Nicolette

One of my music obsessions, the indescribable and uncompromising Nicolette has just re-launched her Early Records with the release of a brand new EP "Modern Stories".  The selection is as eclectic as it gets balancing between some surprising acoustic songs and dancefloor-friendly mixes of her previous material the 2011 "Fascination" and "Guru" from "Life Loves Us". These two mixes are the highlights in my humble opinion, Funkstörung's Michael Fakesch turned "Fascination" into a fully flavoured funk feast while the enigmatic Septimus chopped the lavish serpentines of Nicolette's original vocals and mixed them with some surprising house beats in his take-on "Guru". It is always a pleasure to hear new recordings from Miss Nicolette, a true original who created "an astonishing new hybrid of jazz and electro, or more aptly, a shiny space-age jazz for the 21st century" as we read on her bio. Head to Bandcamp to purchase "Modern Stories" now! Also make sure to check out her wonderfully vibrant "Perfect Party Playlist" cherry-picked exclusively for my blog HERE!

SHREM'S BIGGIES BUT GOODIES BASKET: "SEDULOUS" - Sébastien Tellier + Remixes

And so the conquering of the Blue God also known as Monsiuer Sébastien Tellier continues. "Sedulous" is the latest single taken from "My God Is Blue" was just released with a whole bunch of exciting remixes. The oldskool flavoured mix by Mickey is the saturday night winner while the deliciously laid-back version by Equateur should easily soothe that sunday morning blues tomorrow and get you back into the groove in a friendly paste.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "WHAT CAN I DO" - Sally Shapiro + Com Truise Remix

It's been a while since we heard from Sally Shapiro. "What Can I Do" announces the relase of the Swedish duo's 3rd album "Somewhere Else" out on Feb 26th 2013. As much as I like the delicate original version of the song floating around the sweet synth-pop territories which are Miss Shapiro and Johan Agebjörn's trademarks, it's the remix by Com Truise which completely blew me away. One of the first albums scheduled for 2013 I am utterly excited about.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "HEARTBREAKER" - Alice Russell + FaltyDL Remix

I have always been very fond of Alice Russell. Her smokey soulful vocal skills would move a stone! She has already put a spell on me once this year, her superb collaborative album "Look Around the Corner" which Russell recorded with long-time music chaperon Quantic, is a true masterpiece. "Heartbreaker" is the first single to be lifted from this much loved British soul and blues singer's upcoming fifth album "To Dust", which follows in February 2013. Tru Thoughts prime diva might have just delivered one of her most magnificent performances. What a song!!!

And here's a rather sensational live version of this beauty:

CHOON OF THE DAY: "TEARS FROM HEAVEN" - Desire

Desire, one of the most cherished bands from the ultra-cool Italians Do It Better, has just released this gorgeous vintage video for "Tears from Heaven". In a similar fashion to their widely beloved "Under Your Spell" from the soundtrack to Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive", this new song also offers the unmistakenable production by the enormously talented Johnny Jewel (Glass Candy and The Chromatics), the immediately enchanting melody and the mesmerising mish-mash of analog synths and chill-wave atmosphere. Oh and that little bridge en français in the middle oooh la la... Judging by the excellence of both "Tears From Heaven" and the exquisite "Looking For Love" by The Chromatics we shall soon be treated to one of the best compilations in months if not years. Both tracks will be included on the upcoming "After Dark 2" alongside new tunes by Glass Candy, Farah, Mirage and Appaloosa.

SHREM'S EXCLUSIVE: PERFECT PARTY PLAYLIST VOL. 7 by Frost

BIO:
Frost is a Norwegian electronic duo consisting of Aggie Peterson and Per Martinsen. The group formed in 1997 in Tromsø, Norway. They released their debut album "Bedsit Theories" in 1998. It wasn't until 2001 and the release of their second LP "Melodica", announced by the cult single "Endless Love" (with one of Röyksopp's best mixes to date!), that I came across them first and instantly fell in love with their unique blend of synth-pop, electronica and trip-hop with a Scandinavian twist.
The creative couple is not only responsible for a whole bunch of modern pop classics but is also involved in numerous versatile side projects such as staging art shows for babies (Aggie), writing dystopian ‘transmedia’ novels (Per), composing scores for silent movies (both), building sub-bass driven laser installations (Per) and putting up stage performances with strange, blonde alter-egos (Aggie).
Frost stole my heart (my ears and my feet!) on countless occasions with both their outstanding singles ("One Hundred Years", "Amygdala", "The Woods", "Pharmacy") as well as their hidden treasures in a shape of astonishing album tracks ("Free Your Heart", "Spare Some Time", "Running Out of Time", "Sink"), unexpected cover versions (phenomenal take on Prince written "Sex Shooter") and remixes.
Frost remain one of the most vibrant and ever-changing musical acts to come out of the Nordic countries. Aggie and Per's latest effort "Radiomagnetic" is a concept album (read the full fascinating story behind HERE!) balancing sonically between the icicle cold pop territories, some analog disco and electronica. "Something New" is the 4th single taken from the album, following the extraordinary run of excellent pop singles "The Magician", "Parade" and "The Woods"
The single is featured in an 8-minute video of the same name, directed by Carl Critical. The footage is part of an obscure documentary project entitled ‘Ghost Radio Hunter’ – a collaboration between Carl Critical, Russian underground filmmaker Kostya Shamshin and Frost, covering an expedition into the Arctic looking for the source of mysterious radio signals that were the inspiration for the making of the album ‘Radiomagnetic’. Check out the video below among Frost's "Most Vibrant Moments".
MOST VIBRANT MOMENTS:

PERFECT PARTY PLAYLIST by Frost:

1. Chelonis R. Jones "I Don't Know" - One of the most underrated tunes of the last decade.

2. Simian Mobile Disco "Your Love Ain't Fair" - Soulful and skillful dance music just the way we love it.

3. Factory Floor "Two Different Ways" - Synth, yeah! Sequencer, yeah! Attitude, yeah!

4. Joe Goddard feat. Valentina "Gabriel" - Deeeeep and lovely with a beat that just keeps marching on and on.

5. Bjørn Torske "Jeg vil være søppelmann" - The biggest party tune in the (fairly short) history of Norwegian disco.

6. Liquid Liquid "Optimo" - When the NYC punks started to dance, there was no way back.

7. Feist "Sealion (Chromeo remix)" - A secret weapon that's not so secret anymore after this chart is published.

8. Moloko "Sing It Back (Herbert's Tasteful Dub)" - Herbert's beats bring out the best in this tune, which is quite a lot! Good vibes, good times!

9. Joe Smooth "Promised Land" - An original garage tune and a blueprint for good house music. Instantly fills the dancefloor with love.

10. Todd Terje "Snooze for love" - Terje showing his real genius. Emotional stuff.

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "FACE LOVE ANEW" - Stereogamous feat. Shaun J. Wright

I have been waiting for this release impatiently since I heard a snippet of "Face Love Anew" for the very first time on one of Cocktail d'Amore's mixes. The Australian duo who introduces themselves as "major homosexualists, music lovers, serial huggers, great listeners and super gay djs" invited the velvet voiced Shaun J. Wright, one of the most talented male vocalists out there, to spread his vocal magic over this instantly anthemic piece of top-quality house music. The track has inspired an army of collaborators and djs to help us see its 27th November release. Presented as a special co-release by both Honey Soundsystem and CockTail d'Amore's in-house record labels as a limited 500 vinyl pressing (featuring remixes by Jason Kendig and Discodromo) followed by a digital maxi-single release on December 11th (including remixes from many favourites of mine: Horse Meat Disco, The Miracles Club, Kim Ann Foxman and The Carry Nation). Get ready!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "PLUSH" - Tiga

Brand new track by Tiga. Possibly his best effort since the legendary "Sexor" days... Haunting beats, Kraftwerkian vocals and astonishing production. From Tiga's latest compilation "Non Stop" out now!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "Gå" - Det lilla extra

Do you remember "En Enda Röst"? A fascinatingly dark piece of Swedish witch house that didn't quite sound like anything else in 2011? Well Det lilla extra, the enigmatic act from Umeå, has just posted another utterly magnificent piece composed around their very own recipe of mixing Balearic, dub and electronica. I feel bewitched. Head to the band's soundcloud for more of those lush sounds.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "LOFTICRIES" - Purity Ring

Purity Ring's "Shrines" seems to be an inexhaustible source of treasures both sonically and visually. Montreal duo has just treated us to yet another video this year to one of the stand-out tracks on their mesmerising debut album. I simply adore Megan James' voice and when it comes to electronica and alternative pop scene of the past 2 years at least, Canadians really do it better. Gem!

Here's a wonderful live version of the song too:

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "ALL YOUR GOLD (Hercules & Love Affair Remix)" - Bat For Lashes /// "RELEASE ME" - Hercules & Love Affair [Video]

I have always been very fond of Andrew Butler and his ever-changing nu-disco team of flamboyant vocalists - Hercules & Love Affair. On top of their own fantastic dancefloor-heating anthems the Hercules crew delivers some of the funkiest remixes out there. This particular house treatment of Bat For Lashes' "All Your Gold" should effortlessly secure a solid spot among the best mixes in 2012. We're also now treated to the saucy video for the band's K7-Dj Kicks exclusive "Release Me". The kind of house music I worship the most.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "MUTUAL CORE" [Video] /// "MOON" [The Slips Remix] Björk

I was so thrilled to find out Björk was releasing a video for one of my favourite tracks from her latest album "Biophilia". The video for the euphorically energetic "Mutual Core" was directed by the stunningly talented Andrew Thomas Huang and comes in a perfect moment to accompany the Icelandic diva's 8th and final installment in her eponymous Biophilia Remix Series as well as the arrival of "Bastards" - her brand new remix album. Here's what the lovely lady herself had to say about the release: "I picked a quarter of them for one cd for people who are perhaps not too sassy downloaders or don't have the time or energy to partake in the hunter-gathering rituals of the internet". The freshest sounds and visuals coming yet again from Iceland's prime musical export. Astonishing!
