SHREM'S NEWBIES BUT TO-BE'S: "HOMESCHOOL SWEETHEARTS" - Sheila and the Kit

Sheila and the Kit is a fresh new Dutch synth-pop band emerging with their bouncy, unpretentious and instantly catchy debut single "Homeschool Sweethearts". All band-members have earned their stripes in the music industry but now they come together under one umbrella to brighten up the end of the summer season with this irresistible and old-skool flavoured slice of Pop. Impossibly infectious!

As they say themselves: "Put on your sturdiest kicks and dance!".

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "FILTHY BELIEVER" /// "WE'RE LIKE THE HARD BORN" - BEA

"Filthy Believer" and "We're Like The Hard Born", two songs taken from BEA's exquisite "Good Thinking" EP, both echo trip-hop reminiscences of the late 90's. Mono's elegant "Formica Blues", Vanessa Daou's "Zipless" and Crustation's "Bloom" all came to my mind while listening to this truly exceptional set of songs. BEA comes from The Netherlands and likes to keep things cool and low-key in the virtual reality of internet, remaining admirably independent, unpredictable and inconspicuous. A rare talent.

SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "LOVE TEMPO" - Quando Quango

New wave underground anthems, post-punk oddities and disco obscurities are all right up my musical alley. Quando Quango's 1983 single "Love Tempo" could be filed under each one of those made-up buckets of unconventional dance records. It's hard to believe this single is 30 years old. So ahead of its time...

CHOON OF THE DAY: "THE MOVEMENT SONG" - Joy Wellboy

"Yorokobi's Mantra" is the title of a debut album from Brussels based duo Joy Wellboy. "The Movement Song" was an instant favourite when I listened to this eclectic record for the first time. A track amalgamating slick electronic production with a melody worthy of a synth-pop classic tag, while throwing in some cosy familiar trip-hop elements too. Another extraordinary to come out of Belgium in the most recent months.

CHOONS OF THE DAY: "AMORE SELVAGGIO" + "BACIAMI" - Marli Blu & Marco Moschino

What a joy it was to discover Marli Blu & Marco Moschino last Monday when hunting for exciting new releases all over the internet. As I am an avid Italo Disco Revival enthusiast, bumping into such authentic retro sounds made by current artists is a rare occasion. Mark Du Mosch & Marlijn Van De Kerkhof, the duo behind "Amore Selvaggio" and "Baciami", both aptly sung in Italian, is based in Rotterdam. A summer bomb of a release indeed. The EP is out now via Bordello a Parigi.

SHREM'S LIST OBSESSION: Top 10 Favourite Aeroplane Remixes

I couldn't imagine a more summery playlist for today than this. A mix of my 10 favourite Aeroplane remixes, some of which go back to the beginning when the Belgian act still consisted of both Vito De Luca and Stephen-The Magician-Fasano. The others represent the recent solo work by De Luca. All 10 of them are a stroke of genius on the remixing field. Let the ☼ shine!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "SUNSET" - Compuphonic feat. Marques Toliver + Dj T & Aeroplane Remixes

"8 months and nearly 3,000,000 views since Belgian producer Compuphonic uploaded, 'Sunset' his collaboration with Marques Toliver to YouTube with just a simple logo, the track finally has a proper video, courtesy of Lisbon based film producers Salon Alpin." Now this ubiquitous piece of hedonistic house also gets a second single release packed with remix treasures. Here's "Sunset" in all its visual and sonic glory with the now famous summer anthem of a remix by Dj T. and a phenomenal oldskool rendition juggling between French Touch vibes, 1980's pop and Nu Disco by the one and only Aeroplane, Belgium's best dance export.

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "PUMP IT UP" - A.N.D.Y. feat. Nyemiah Supreme

What an instant hit. It's like Azealia Banks and Tensnake together with an utterly fashionable 1990's oldskool flavour and a Belgian twist. A.N.D.Y.'s single is out now on Beatport via Smile Records. Put on your dancing shoes baby!

CHOONS OF THE DAY: "BROTHERMAN" + "CREEP" - Detroit Swindle

I discovered Detroit Swindle yesterday while browsing through the new releases when I came across these two deep house beauties. This Amsterdam based duo is getting ready for taking over various European clubs this wintertime. Buy "Creep" EP now on Beatport!

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING: "LOVE JIHAD" - Skip & Die

This intriguingly twisted and inventively cacophonous mish-mash of urban beats, hip-hop, dancehall and middle-eastern vibes (that clarinet!) comes from a collaboration between the South African vocalist/visual artist Catarina Aimée Dahms (aka Cata.Pirata) and Dutch producer Jori Collignon. Controversially titled "Love Jihad", the song announces Skip & Die's upcoming album "Riots In The Jungle" out on 8th October. Think M.I.A. meets Buraka Som Sistema with a pinch of punk and a Klezmer twist...

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE PRESENTS: "KILL ME" - The Golden Filter + Remixes

The Golden Filter's soporific "Kill Me" somehow slipped through my radar despite of its powerful video and a set of absolutely amazing remixes. The following two renditions of the track by the Danish/Iranian duo Rosemary and Belgian Fusty Delights have just found a solid spot among the best mixes I heard this year so far. It's a sonic feast of sublime, sombre and eerily beautiful soundscapes. I am rather intrigued to see the the NYC duo perform at this year's Lovebox Festival in London.

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "WE CAN'T FLY" [Remixes] - Aeroplane

Aeroplane's eminent nu-disco release "We Can't Fly" has been feeding us with a bunch of dancefloor-ready anthems since its initial release in autumn 2010. Now it's time to cherry-pick all the juiciest of the mixes, submitted by the absolute elite of the current dance scene (Breakbot, The Krays, Green Velvet, Cassius, Rex The Dog, Chromeo - seriously no average brands included!) and combine them into a summer essential of an EP. If having any doubts at all, it is totally worth the price for the opening Joakim mix of "Caramellas" - out of this Balearic world!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "SAGE COMME UN IMAGE" - Bottin feat. Jupiter /// Original by Lio

This cult 1980's synth-pop single receives a superb re-make by the mighty Bottin, a "French touched" re-make courtesy of one my favourite Kitsuné acts - Jupiter. This new version of "Sage comme une Image" truly is a monster of a dancefloor filler. For more stories behind Lio's nu-disco cover, head to Bottin's soundcloud. Here's Spiller mix and the original video below.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "HORSES" - Montevideo + Mickey Rework

Hungry for some fresh disco punk DFA style? Montevideo's "Horses" should soothe all those where-is-my-new-LCD-Soundsystem-tune cravings just fine. This electrifying single by the faux-Uruguayans from Brussels is out now via Smile Recordings. Top quality production!

SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "2 WICKY" + "INHALER" - Hooverphonic

I cam back to Hooverphonic's debut album recently and re-fell in love with it. Initially named Hoover and fronted by their first vocalist Liesje Sadonius, they were the Belgian answer to the omnipresent European movement of trip hop bands with female singers. Can't quite grasp the idea of this (not so) new stereophonic sound spectacular being 15 years old already...

SHREM'S GUILTIEST OF PLEASURES... VOL. 25: "ROCKET TO YOUR HEART"/ "JUMP SHOUT" - Lisa

It's been a while since I posted something ultra-camp. How about this early 1980's Hi-Energy delicious trash made in Belgium?J'adorrrrre...

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "WHY TELL ME WHY?" - Anita Meyer /// "ANITA (VILLA EDIT)" - Villa

The summertime and the living is easy listening! First the wonderfully tacky Anita Meyer and her Dutch Number 1 from 1981... And then a bit of "balearic lushness" courtesy of Belgian act Villa who re-edited the tune to be the ultimate summer anthem. One of the top tunes on my favourite Murat Gayretli's (aka Porneon) playlist. Fabulousness!

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "THING CALLED LOVE (Legowelt Remix)" - Wolfram feat. Haddaway /// "SO FREE" - Shine 2009 feat. Paula Abdul

Two very unexpected and highly intriguing collaborations. First up it's Finnish duo Shine 2009 who have invited Miss Paula - Straight Up - Abdul to feature on their brand new highly addictive single. Immerse yourself in this Balearic lushness of this tune and then move onto track number 2. Continuing on the cosmopolitan mood of this post, we've Italo-disco reinventor from Austria - Herr Wolfram Eckert who after getting together with Hercules & Love Affair for their cheerful single "Fireworks", also tempted a rather unusual guest, an early 1990's chart topping trashy star - Haddaway. It's all served in Dutch sauce by a certain Legowelt.

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING "NEW KID" by Monokino

This must be one of the most original ideas for a music video in the past few months. Pity I didn't come across it earlier, it would have probably made it to the final shortlist of this year's most impressive video clips. Both the artist behind the direction as well as the band are from Amsterdam and judging by their photo albums uploaded on their myspace page they seem to have a bit of a devoted following in... China! Do enjoy:

CHOON OF THE DAY: WITHOUT LIES - Aeroplane feat. Sky Ferreira

Aeroplane's third single is here!!!

...and here comes a bonus, Breakbot's groovy remix which surpassed the original version in its brilliance in my humble opinion... Monsieur Thibaut Berland returned the favour after having his latest single "Baby I'm yours" wonderfully treated by the Aeroplane boys a few months ago. The single is out today!
