SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS: "ONE'S COMPANY" - A K U A
So far 2013 has definitely been the year of house as well as the year of reinventing R'N'B. We also observed an avalanche of up and coming female artists pioneering this dynamically expanding urban flavoured scene. Moko, Lulu James, Kilo Kish, Rina Sawayama and now also A K U A have all been on my musical radar recently spoiling me with their fresh sounds spicing up the genre and re-twisting its often generic American standards. This Canadian songstress, describing her own sound as "remote soul", is off to a promising start with her debut EP "One's Company", co-produced by Andy Bauer of Twin Shadow. The title track literally left me flabbergasted, it's sooooo good! Love at first listen. I owe this wonderful discovery to the multi-eclectic disco naïveté, one of my absolute favourite blogs out there!

SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "HEAVEN KNOWS" - Lalah Hathaway
This sadly forgotten song by Donny Hathaway's daughter is such a sunny moment in the catalogue of 1990's R'N'B gems. I absolutely adore coming back to it especially on a day like today. Blissful...

SHREM'S CLUB BIZARRE INTRODUCING: "WATCHER" - Femme En Fourrure
This oniric piece of electronica comes from Helsinki and it's far from being an idyllic ambient moment. Instead it draws you into an unexplored mélange of fascinating if slightly disconcerting soundscapes that lie somewhere between Angelo Badalamenti's soundtracks for David Lynch classics, 4AD vibe of the 1980's releases by Cocteau Twins and spoken word recordings by the likes of Vanessa Daou or recently Catalan duo Jansky. Both versions of "Watcher" are available now on Femme En Fourrure's album "36-26-36" out now via Convex Industries.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "THE HUNTER" - Marnie
I've always been more than keen on Ladytron and their signature instantly recognisable sound. The Liverpool synth-pop machine delivered 5 astounding records and is now taking a brief break while the quartet's lead vocalist Helen Marnie decided to make her first solo album in Reykjavík. "For the past year I’ve been writing more than ever, and i’m so pleased with the results thus far. The album, as yet untitled, is straight from the heart. I can’t put it any other way. It means a lot. It is me, noone else. It is everything around me, my loves, my life, hopes and loss. I wanted to create an electronic album with more of a pop element and pristine vocals. Lyrically, the album is expansive, but the Elements do play a part in much of the record, with the sea being particularly dominant and reoccurring. So, with the sea in mind and beautiful landscapes, I decided to fly to Iceland to record in a studio there. The light is so pretty, the air fresh, the sea vast, that I thought it would be the perfect setting to record." - Marnie explains on Pledge Music where you can support this release. "Crystal World" is a must have for every Ladytron maniac out there.
CHOON OF THE DAY: "AIRGLOW FIRES" - Lone
Coming back with this flavoursome track by the talented Mr Matt Cutler, better known as Lone. This is such a pure summer festival sound isn't it? Every single release by this Manchester based produced has been a bliss so far but the upbeat "Airglow Fires" could easily be classified as one of his finest works to date, sounding both fresh and oldskool in the same time. Smashing!
