SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "QueenS" - THEESatisfaction

How about this groovy piece of nu soul fabulousness? Think I have just found myself a brand new favourite video. "QueenS" lies somewhere between oldskool Bahamadia and underground urban scene darling Fatima with echoes of Lucy Pearl's "Don't Mess With My Man" in my ears. Beyond cool!

Miss Kathy Diamond and Mr Maximillian Skiba, better known as The KDMS, one of Gomma Records' brightest dance acts, are back with yet another splendid piece of nu-disco. The uplifting "Wonderman" announces the release of their long anticipated debut album "Kinky Dramas and Magic Stories" packed with funky house classics like "High Wire", "Never Stop Believing" or the ubiquitous "Tonight". This British/Polish duo's catalogue has always been a reliable source of pure fun tunes. Par-tay!

And for those of you who missed out on KDMS' fantastic rendition of Madonna's "Give Me All Your Luvin'" single, here it is again. It's a rare example of a brilliantly clever cover version of a rather weak original song, check it out:

SHREM'S FUTURE ANTHEMS: "NIGHT AND DAY" - Hot Chip + Daphni & Dusky Remixes

The unstoppable Hot Chip has just treated us to another instant dancefloor classic the bizarre slice of oddball funky nu-disco "Night and Day". This deliciously eccentric track could already easily compete with "Over and Over", "We Have Love" and "I Feel Better" as the Brit quintet's best single to date in my humble opinion. I'm in awe and now really looking forward to hearing their 5th album "In Our Heads" out on 8th June via Domino Recording.

SHREM'S DOUBLE TROUBLE: "MR OVERTIME" - Punks Jump Up feat. Dave 1 /// "CROSS THE DANCEFLOOR (Chromeo Remix)" - Treasure Fingers

David Macklovitch aka Dave 1 from the unstoppable electrofunk machine Chromeo, provided his immediately recognisable vocals for Punks Jump Up's brand new single "Mr Overtime". What a pure summertime collaboration. It's a rather good opportunity to also play one of my favourite Chromeo remixes, their 2008 sadly forgotten rework of Treasure Fingers' "Cross The Dancefloor". It stands out strongly next to the Canadian duo's most successful singles to this day. These two tunes together should be a perfect antidote for any potential grumpy moods caused by the indecisive weather...

SHREM'S LATE MONDAY NIGHT SESSIONS... "WE CAN'T FLY" [Remixes] - Aeroplane

Aeroplane's eminent nu-disco release "We Can't Fly" has been feeding us with a bunch of dancefloor-ready anthems since its initial release in autumn 2010. Now it's time to cherry-pick all the juiciest of the mixes, submitted by the absolute elite of the current dance scene (Breakbot, The Krays, Green Velvet, Cassius, Rex The Dog, Chromeo - seriously no average brands included!) and combine them into a summer essential of an EP. If having any doubts at all, it is totally worth the price for the opening Joakim mix of "Caramellas" - out of this Balearic world!

SHREM'S INSTITUTE OF LOST CLASSICS: "UNDERWATER" + "AT LEAST I AM FREE" + "MOSES" - Elizabeth Fraser

Since Cocteau Twins' final album "Milk & Kisses", Elizabeth Fraser mostly kept a low profile getting involved in a very few but artistically very carefully selected music projects. Her collaborations with Massive Attack on "Mezzanine" almost instantly received cult status. In addition to her work with Yann Tiersen (the stunning "Kala") she has only officially released 3 songs in the space of the whole last decade... But what songs they were! The magnificent "Underwater" was released as a white label limited to only 200 (!!!) copies back at the beginning of the new Millennium. She contributed her own version of Chic's fairly unknown "At Least I Am Free" to Rough Trade's 25th Anniversary compilation in 2003. Finally she came back with tango inspired "Moses" in 2009, a song as beautiful as her original band's most timeless moments. My digital music library tells me that with today's 100th listening to the song it is the 7th most played track (out of 11 thousand) on my iTunes library. Here they are, all 3 marvellous recordings by England's most angelic of all voices, the mesmerising Elizabeth Fraser...

I have just realised it's been a long while since I shared some Far East Asian Pop which I have such a soft spot for. Well to catch up here are none less than three songs coming from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan respectively. Especially for those of you who love ludicrously over the top high budget videos, even if slightly trashy but undeniably catchy melodies and pure pop perfection Asian style.

Miss Jessie Ware effortlessly shows how to top up one of this year's best single, her very own "Running", by releasing an even better song! "110%" quite simply blew me away this morning. UK urban sound at its most refined and its freshest. 2012 is more and more shaping to completely belong to Miss Ware and her exquisite hybrid of UK funky, nu-soul and garage. I can't praise this track enough and can already sense a number one spot coming up on this month's crème de la crème.

CHOON OF THE DAY: "THE MELODY" - B.C.

M.I.A.'s protégés B.C. continue the promotion of their multi-eclectic EP "B.C. Kingdom" with a brand new video "The Melody". It's a truly dynamic mish-mash of kitsch, 1980's and an "avalanche" of Middle Eastern, Indian and African motives. The boys also offer an exclusive dj set mixed for the Opening Ceremony blog. To my surprise and delight they have included the sadly overlooked "Perfect Man" - my absolute favourite Destiny's Child track in it too. One of the most original and genre-bending music acts coming from the States at the moment if you ask me... Try not to fall for this melody... Impossible!

The Icelandic threesome of electro fashionistas - Steed Lord return with another meticulously crafted eponymous dancefloor symphony. Miss Kali's alluring vocals, fascinatingly eerie production, intricately constructed melody twists all served with a pinch of icicle pop caused another absolute masterpiece in Steed Lord's electrifying repertoire. Here's "Precognition" - the first single and the future sight into the Scandinavian trio's forthcoming 3rd album "The Prophecy" which will be released in two parts this summer. Out on iTunes now!

CHOON OF THE DAY: "NASTY" - Voxels

Another new promising dance project emerges from the ever so expanding Portuguese dance & electronica scene. The recent addition to the likes of Buraka Som Sistema and Moullinex, Voxels are just another reason to keep an eye on this vibrant scene on a regular basis. "Nasty" echoes some of the Azari & III's vibes (particularly the sexy humming of "Manic") and tickles my feet with its captivating beat. Watch their zero budget music video below and turn this Wednesday afternoon into a hopping saturday night clubbing extravaganza.

This Danish/Iranian duo named Rosemary lies somewhere between the soundscapes of Fever Ray, The Knife, Det Lilla Extra and Grimes. I have been praising "Sleep Alone" already back in 2011 but the band has just released a fascinatingly tense video for it this week. This magnificent piece of music was released back in 2003. It's a dramatic, panoramic feast of old-fashioned melodies, Manhattan Transfer style harmonies with a pinch of unexpected, intricately arranged jungle beats all in 5 minutes! Miss Joanna Swan at the top of her vocal game as well. "Asleep At The Wheel" included on their debut EP "Revelation", was sadly omitted from the final version of their sensational debut LP "They Died For Beauty". It is a song beyond beauty, a one of a kind sonic experience, one of those quiet winners among my all time favourite tracks. Chapeaux bax...

I must confess I am warming up to Miss Nicki Minaj with every next release. I have always been an admirer of her flamboyant styling but never too convinced of the most sonic side of things. Her completely up-the-walls "Stupid Hoe" won me over instantly and still stands out among the most unique singles in 2012. On top of her collaboration with Madonna "I don't give A" which is one of the most impressive tracks on the Queen of Pop's latest "MDNA", she now also released another whopper production in a shape of her sleek minimal and explicit "Beez in the Trap". With all that jazz I think I might try and forgive her for collaborating with this planet's worst musical producer David Guetta...
